Get more volume when you are starting at the gym and grow progressively, do not start lifting 500lbs on your first day, start with 25lbs for example and lift till failure.

Diet is everything, if you eat junk, you'll have inflammation and low energy in the Gym which can sabotage your gym efforts, your diet should be rich in animal protein, fruits and water, you can have a cheat day, where you can eat whatever you want.

Be consistent also, almost every program can help you build muscle if you are consistent enough, plan your gym schedules in months and quarters to get quantitative results.

Another advice I would give a beginner is to take things slowly. One major mistake most beginners make when it comes to going to the gym is that they rush into things, then starting doing more than what their body can handle.

Yeah, no one actually grows in the Gym by starting to life heavier, it should be progressive and increased as time goes on, you'll build resilient muscles and also build strength, personally i do not see the point of starting to lift heavier before you build a base, any regular gym user will tell you the importance of lifting progressively.

Nutrition is also underrated massively, there's a limit to what you can lift or how much you can grow if you don't eat good food to nourish your body, you'll have to turn to animal diet to get big muscles.
