Yes, you can do both SEO and SEM at the same time. You can get ranked for paid search as well as organic search. However, unlike SEO, SEM requires substantial amount. The average CPC on Google search is around $2, which means for every click generated on your ad, you will have to spend $2. And not all clicks result in conversion and conversion is just around 6-8 percent. You might be on the losing side if your ads do not convert well with SEM
