Hi everyone,

I recently started a blog about personal finance and I am trying to grow its audience without relying on paid ads. I understand that keywords and SEO are important, but I am not sure how to choose the right ones or use them effectively in my posts.

Has anyone had success building organic traffic from scratch? What strategies worked for you, especially in the first few months? Any tips for avoiding common mistakes would be really helpful.

Thanks in advance for sharing your experience.

congrats on starting your blog — personal finance is competitive but totally doable.

In the first few months, what worked for me was going super specific. Instead of “how to budget,” I’d target something like “how to budget with irregular income” or “how to save money on a $2,000 salary.” Smaller topics, but way easier wins.

Also, don’t overthink keywords. I usually type a topic into Google, check the “People also ask” and related searches, and build posts around those questions. That alone can give you a solid content roadmap.

One mistake I made early on was writing what I thought people needed instead of what they were actually searching. Using a keyword research tool (I’ve been testing rankar.ai lately for this) helps spot realistic opportunities instead of chasing impossible terms.

Stick with it for a few months — consistency beats hacks every time.
