In the long run, alcohol impacts about 90% of your body and nearly all of your organs. As much as taking alcohol at moderate levels may not be dangerous, regular alcohol consumption affects your health badly. In the brain, alcohol depresses the signals that control emotions, recall and coordination. On the heart for instance it increases blood pressure and can cause problems of irregular heartbeat. The individual is harmed as the liver is damaged in the process of endeavouring to metabolize alcohol leading to diseases of the liver. Alochol also impairs your immune system making it possibe for you to easily fall sick more often than usual. At times these effects may occur in months or years, and if accumulated they reduce overall health, and predispose to long-term diseases.

Regular consumption is not good for health long term and it has been confirmed by a lot of studies, I think due to the high alcohol supply it is hard to let go of the bottle and think of the effects as a long term problem, there are a lot of non profit organization that help with alcohol addiction.

First helpful step anyone can take is to reduce intake if they can not stop completely, they should also join a community that can keep them accountable in case they're afraid of slipping back into it, ad with time they can cut it down significantly .
