There are multiple ways to start an online business such as creating your own store, selling on social media or selling on ecommerce platforms. However, selling on your own site cost a lot of money as you need to spend money to create store. Even when you try open source platforms like woocommerce, Drupal Commerce, or Magento, instead of premium software like Shopify or Big Commerce, you will have to spend money on domains and hosting. Social platforms, on the other hand, do not offer dedicated shop page and people do not usually go to social media to buy products. eCommerce marketplace can be an option but they take a lot of commission.

One of the major issues with online business is competition, if I'm running an online business I am competing with everyone in the world running tat kind of business and it can be hectic and make the competition overwhelming especially if you don't have the capital and your business will struggle.
But if you start a local business you only compete with people in your locality and there is just a little you can do to figure it out and get profitable, as you move up in the marketplace you can learn more and get stronger, competition is more brutal online than offline.
