You can invest in real estate through two methods, one, you can invest through real estate investment trust, which is like investing in a business through stock market, and two, you can directly invest in the property either as a real estate builder, developer or investor, or simply buying the property. When you invest directly, it gives you control—you set the price for selling the property or renting it out. Real estate investment trusts, however, are managed by businesses, thus you have no your control. Even though investing through real estate trust can be less risky, direct property investment offers more autonomy.
