Business profitability is based on many factors for example the type of business you are in and how much cash flow you have in the business, in software business for example it will take sometime to turn a profit especially if you don't sell directly to customers, if you rely on ads for example.

On the other hand offline business might provide easier and faster cash flow depending on if it's a product or a service type of business, you can turn a profit the first day you start it.

At the end, you should set an objective based on your goals and what you want to achieve.

It depends on the kind of business. Some business that deal with buying and selling can profit you immediately you get to sell your product. How much and how many times you make sales will determine how much you are going to make as your profit. Some business require you to wait for some time before you can accumulate alot of profit but that does not imply you can make profit through such business. We should pay attention while trying to engage ourselves in any business so we not involve ourselves in any unprofitable activity.
